New Fabric Combination

A new fabric combination: Chocolate Brown Velour and Soft Green "Flannel Bear" Flannel. The Green Flannel bear will soon be uploaded as another bottom fabric choice on the website. We used green embroidery thread with the Baby Font and the Story time Bears design. Very cute combination.

We are so excited to have a new supplier for our velour fabrics. The velour colors are quite rich and the fabric is sumptuous, so thick and so soft. We are replacing all the top side minky fabric as the supplies dwindle in the older stock and adding some new colors. Check out the fabulous red. Our blankets have a very substantial feel and look with the top quality flannel and minky fabrics.

Wow, it is hard to believe it is Fall already!

We wanted to give you an update on some of the new happenings at Forever Blankets and Bears.

Great news, Canada Post has upgraded their delivery standards for services Overseas and to the Untied States. Delivery is speedier, usually within 5 business days; unfortunately shipping rates have increased as a result. We are working hard at trying to keep our shipping rates reasonable and we may be considering different packaging options to keep the costs favourable.

We are so excited about the new fabrics we have added over the summer. New to the Top Fabric section is a rich red velour which combines beautifully with several fabrics from the current collection and with some exciting new fabrics yet to arrive.

We have some great new designs also. Baby Blankets for Haiti

We are really pleased to announce 15 double sided receiving blankets created by Forever Blankets and Bears (www.foreverblanketsandbears.com) are on their way to Haiti for relief. They are being transported by the Compassionate Resource Centre here in Victoria, BC and will go out the first week of February. Please visit their website and help if you can. They are amazing people who do such good work.

The Compassionate Resource Warehouse is a lot of things to a lot of people. First, it's a gathering in place, where everything from medicines to school supplies, clothing to household goods, personal hygiene items to dry food stuffs is collected, packed into huge eight by eight by 40-foot containers and then shipped to peoples and nations in need around the world.
It is a place of community, where volunteers assemble to work side by side with a common goal: to give of themselves in order to better the lot of people in need often half a world away.

We wanted to let everyone know about our new revised website, launched a couple of weeks ago. I think we are close to having most of the bugs ironed out, with the exception of one small "Monkey" embroidery design.

There are so many new products and features. The new Baby Zoobies and Original sized Zoobie Pets are amazing. Zoobies are a soft plush friend to play with a super soft pillow and a blanket for snuggling when it's time to sleep. Loosen the Velcro straps on the Zoobies bottom and the toy flattens into a cushiony pillow. Unzip the bottom of Zoobie Pet to reveal a fleece blanket, which is detachable for easy washing.

Speaking of snuggly babies we thought we'd open with a brief article on the advantages of swaddling babies. Our blankets are perfect for swaddling, The blankets are wonderfully hand crafted and double sided. They are warm, cozy and the perfect size for swaddling. The blankets are available in two different styles both of which can be personalized.

The Advantages of Swaddling your Baby

Swaddling babies a very popular tradition around the world in many countries, but less common in North American or western European families. Pediatricians have been researching the affect that swaddling has on your baby and have been astonished at the results. They have found that what we in North America call “colic”, simply does not exist in most countries. Why? Because they resolve the problem of their crying baby by swaddling them firmly in a blanket to give them a sense of security. For some infants, being bundled up in a soft blanket may be all it takes to settle them down. Swaddling keeps your baby from flailing his arms around and startling himself. When they aren’t startled and can relax, they are able to concentrate on remaining calm and responding to your efforts in resolving their need. The best blanket for swaddling is a large square, not a rectangle, Infants need to be wrapped very tightly for the technique to be effective. At times some babies may seem to struggle at first, as they push against the blanket to find the limits, but most come to happily anticipate being bundled and relax as soon as they are positioned on the blanket. Another advantage to swaddling is that it may help your baby sleep better. Studies from the Washington University of Medicine show that this technique may add 1-2 hours of extra sleep per day. This study also showed that babies who are swaddled tend to fall asleep more.
Concerns about swaddling — that it can restrict breathing, cause hip problems and lead to overheating — were also considered when the above study took place. Results show that the infants oxygen levels remained the same and that there were no problems regarding hip joint development so long as the legs were left loosely in the blanket.To avoid overheating in warmer weather, ensure that your baby is only wearing a diaper when swaddled. No clothes or undershirts. Also, your infant’s head should never be covered. Researchers found that a baby’s temperature was not significantly increased when these guidelines were followed.
So what is the correct way to swaddle your baby?
•Spread out the blanket in a diamond shape and fold the top corner down.
•Lay your baby on top, with the neck at the fold.
•Fold one top corner down and across the body, holding baby’s arm straight at their side, and tuck it under the baby.
•Fold the bottom corner on the same side up.
•Now fold the other top corner down, holding the second arm at the baby's side, and pull it snugly to about the middle of the chest.
•Bring the bottom of the blanket up and across your baby’s body, wrapping it snugly. Notice that your baby’s legs can still flex and move, but their arms are held still.
